Odds Calculations for a Winning Race Horse?
This table below gives you an easy way of comparing the bookmakers' prices with tote prices, current bookmakers' prices and the market percentages.An example of this would be if you go down the table you will see that 3/1 is the same as the tote price of $4.00. Most bookmakers' prices are now quoted this way. You will also easily be able to convert bookmakers' prices back to normall bookmakers' prices. The Market % of each price is also included on the right columnof the table.
The closer this % is to 100 for the total of the combined runners in a race, the better the prices are for the punter. The greater over 100 this % is for the total of all runners, the worse it is for the punter.

you are getting a price that will make you lose in the long term!
For example, if you could only get odds on, about the toss of a coin, it won'tt matter what you back, heads or tails, you will get a price that must make you lose long term. To be a successful punter you must understand what market % are all about, otherwise you are betting blind. The best price available from a bookmaker on a Saturday meeting in Sydney, will nearly always total close to 100, sometimes even under! You will never get these on the totes, which are 120+. |
